Help Wanted

Hello everyone!

Now as you may or may not have seen, but over the past few days I have been posting about tournament play and working towards participating in Adepticon.  However, I have ran into a problem that is hampering my current effort.  My team NEEDS another member to have the desired 4 member set up.  So I figured that I would post our help wanted ad in an effort to try and solve this problem.  The faster we take care of this the faster we can get this show on the road.

We are looking for an experienced 4th player for our Adepticon team tournament team in the Cleveland area.

Requirements

1. Attend Adepticon in April 2011
2. Practice every tuesday (missing a day here or there is ok, but needs to be dedicated like us to win 1st. place) with us at our local gaming store in Middleburg Heights.
3. Pay for your 1k point section of the team.
4. Experienced. We are not looking for a new player. We want someone who KNOWS the rules.
5. Wants to WIN, not just play at Adepticon!

The army will be built and painted for you with lots of conversions. Again, No painting is required! Although if you are a good painter and want to, then that’s a plus. We have a conversion master, and 2 painters already, with experience playing the game. Between the 3 of us, we own a total of 10 armies with the background to play against all styles of armies.

If you think this is you please just post and we’ll get back to you…

Also, if you are unable to help us out, but you have a team yourself and want to get some practice games in we are willing to travel and try out our lists. The more practice the better I say! This also applies to solo gamers who just want to play competitively. We can even arrange for a meeting as I am always about meeting new and passionate gamers.

I look forward to hearing back from you, and hopefully we can find someone and soon.

Looks like someone is going to be playing in the circuit….

Because I am now making the effort to go to Adepticon, I figured that I should probably get some practice in on the way. Now I will most definitely be participating in local area tournaments… But there is a qualifier tournament up in Rochester, New York which is only a 4 hour drive for me to get some action in. The tournament is called the Da Boyz GT 2010 and their event relies heavily on army composition, theme, painting, and sportsmanship.

Now I have never actually participated in an event with army composition is such a huge factor let alone a scoring factor so this is definitely a culture shock for me. Just by judging from the descriptions on their web site of what a good, average, and bad army composition is, it looks like my current White Scars list, despite the all bike theme, would get hammered. So I had to go back to the drawing boards and figure out a decent list with would score higher with army composition.

So here is the current list that I am contemplating because it would require very little in the way of painting and touch up for me to finish it.

Finished

Almost Complete

Primed and begun painting

Not even built

Other options I have available because they are painted would be to drop the flamer bike squad and the heavy bolter attack bikes along with the two melta guns in the command squad in order to take a 10 man assault with with powerfist and 2x flamers and finish filling out the rest of the plasma squad with 2 more dudes and a multi-melta attack bike.  If I did this list, I would probably give the plasma bike sergeant a power weapon because I would have 5 extra paints and I think that it would look pretty cool in that squad.  That option requires significantly less painting but I am unsure how effective it would be, but then again 10 outflanking assault marines sounds pretty bad ass to me!  They would also complement my command squad.

Either way it looks like I have a lot of work ahead of me over the next two months in preperation.  Not to mention that I am also going to have to build a display board for my army and work on some fluff so I can get higher scores in the presentation and theme categories.  Well its definetly a challenge but I am willing to accept it because if I get first or second at this event then I get an Invitation to the championships in Las Vegas during the summer of next year.  So its all worth it!

It’s going down

After knowing about and wanting to go to this event for years now I am finally going to break down and plan for the event. I have no idea who my team members are going to be. I have no idea what army I am going to play. I have no idea about how I am even going to do at the event.

BUT! I am going and have 220 days to decide.

So I would love to know who else is going and some of the stories you have to tell about previous experiences.

A solution to bad pictures! Finally!

So I was talking with my friend lefteris about how to improve the photography of my models and he showed me this guide on how to get the most out of taking photos of models. When I get some money together after my school loans go through then I am definitely going to have to build one of these. That way I can show off in detail the projects I have been working on. Woo I am excited!

New Arrivals

Hello all!

If you haven’t noticed we have a new member apart of the Stillfrosty Conversion Team which is Turbo_MMX

He has his own set of unique style, passion, talent, and drive and I personally feel that he is a great addition to the team. So be sure to give him a warm welcome and some feedback love on the projects he has been working so hard on in the past few weeks!

Out with the old and In with the New

Well That theme didn’t work out too long… Well I guess it is best to keep things fresh.

Anyways, Besides reporting a new theme selection due to some malfunctions with the previous one, I was looking for some feedback for this website. I feel that solely having conversions and painted miniatures is fun, but this site is for everything 40k. So I have a couple of things in mind in how I plan on ultimately integrate into the site, but I want to hear what you guys had in mind as well, especially since this site was made for Gamers by Gamers and I want to cater to everyone’s tastes!

I look forward to hearing your interesting and creative ideas!

January Update: White Scars, Imperial Guard, Chaos, and more

Hello All!

I trust that everyone had a safe holiday and a happy new year these past couple of weeks and got everything they wanted as well ;)

As far as “New Year Resolutions” are concerned, I have a few of them and we’ll see if they happen like I hope they will. First off I hope to “finish” collecting, converting, and painting my white scars army. I will probably stop at 5000 points but who knows. But I do have a grand scheme to get this army done promptly and I hope it all works out!

Secondly, I would love to start working on my Imperial Guard again. So the first thing I feel I need to do to them is come up with a color scheme and that will be one of my next tasks in the following weeks.

Thirdly, I hope to rebase my whole entire Grey Knights army to something more fitting for the emperor’s best instead of blah green flock bases. This is a really easy project in theory… but for some reason I keep putting it off…. but not this year!

Finally, I hope to keep expanding my kroot renegades. I have several unfinished kroot suits to paint along with a few others I still need to build not to mention make flying bases for all of my tanks. I also want to touch up the paint schemes of the vast amounts of kroot I have laying around.

So there are a few of my 40k resolutions. I hope to see them all finished but with work, family, and school its probably not going to happen. I am sure going to try my hardest though!!! Also, if you have any 40k resolutions for the new year you would like to share, please go right ahead so we can work together to get our projects done!

I know that having all of this time has allowed me to finish projects that I have been working on so I feel its finally time to bring in the new year with Kor’sorro Khan! He is an awesome figure and though he is on foot and therefore kind of pointless in my all bike white scars army, I still have a soft spot for him. So I painted him up and here he is:

I hope you all enjoyed this and look forward to feedback and comments about him as well!

Until next time

School’s out for…. Winter?

You know…. being December seventeenth I would expect my neighborhood pond to look like this… but in fact it is quite the opposite this year no snow, no rain, just abysmal cold temperatures. What happened to winter??? I think their have been states five hundred miles south of us who have had more snow then us and we even have lake effect which hasn’t done anything this season.

Ranting aside, School is over (for now), Christmas is on the way, and instead of getting caught up in all of the holiday nonsense, I am spending my break working on 40k models! I have only been out of school for less then a week and I have been on a non stop building spree, I have build/converted an entire imperial guard battle force, scratch built eight attack bikes for my White Scars army, and build and began converting four chaos vehicles. I still have four more weeks of break to go!

So while you are waiting for pictures of these awesome conversions, I wanted to let you all know I haven’t stopped, I just need to get my camera working again…

Tyranids!!!

Here are some of the pictures taken from Gamesworkshop website about the upcoming Tyranid invasion thats due to hit in January. Though I personally am not a fan of Tyranids…. the Trygon and the Mawloc are pretty amazing.

I hope you all enjoy the inevitable tide of destruction this new codex will release!

Here is a brief description of the models as well:

(picture #1) Mawlocs are huge worm-like creatures that can appear amidst the enemy ready to sow panic and destruction

(picture #2) The Trygon is a fearsome close combat monster cable of firing bolts of searing bio-energy

(picture #3) A Pyrovore’s maw drips with corrosive acids that are powerful enough to reduce armour, flesh and bone to a gooey, smouldering mucous. When confronted by a foe the Pyrovore launches forth an incandescent fireball from its dorsal bio-weapon that reduces its victim to a pile of burning ash.

(picture #4) The Hive Guard are charged with protecting Tyranid structures and are capable of unleashing salvo after salvo of intense firepower. Essentially gun-beasts, they are heavily armoured and have a body designed to be a stable firing platform for the massive impaler cannon bonded to their forelimbs. Physically linked to the shard-beasts that comprise the ammunition to their cannons, Hive guard can target enemies with unerring accuracy – even those who they cannot see.

Besides releasing these completely new units, Games Workshop is releasing new plastic ravenors, and gargoyles along with recuts of the gaunt and hormagaunt boxes. There is plenty to new stuff to look into if you are a Tyranid fan!

Legion of the Damned Incoming!!!

I just saw on the Games Workshop website that they are finally releasing the much anticipated Legion of the Damned models in January. I am definitely picking up a unit of these to add to my White Scars army in larger games!

I hope you all enjoy these as much as I do!
